My mom Mrs. Amala Hope, a teacher, and later a principal spent more than half of her life (43 years) at her school. I used to envy that she spent more time at school than for us (family). However, subconsciously I deeply loved her dedication and passion for serving others in her teaching profession. She did not expect any accolades or awards to motivate her, she loved what she did. This made me choose a profession that is just a part of what she did as a whole.
I have personally seen her making a difference in many lives where she has helped students as well as staff in many ways without advertising about it. I saw humility in her, which is a rare value these days.
As a mother or teacher, she was very protective and I have never seen her hit us or any other student because of anger or frustration. She had her own way of maintaining discipline. She was also a strict disciplinarian. Through this, I learned that kindness and assertiveness can go together.
From the stories she shared, I understood her genuineness, empathetic nature, and how she provided a safe space for people to confide with her.
She is one of the greatest teachers and my role model. I have paved myself into the field of counseling with a drive to make a difference by being inspired by her.
This is a tribute to my mom and all the teachers around the world who love their profession and inspire hope in future generations.
